Energy In Vs. Energy Out
Weight loss can be a frustrating battle. We’re told to ‘eat less and move more’ but that often doesn’t deliver the results we want. Everyone is different and simply eating less and moving more doesn’t consider the complex factors that affect your metabolism and determine your body composition.
To better understand these complex factors, we need to look beyond the energy in vs. energy out equation.
An individual’s ‘energy in’ refers to what is being eaten. We all look to nutrition labels provide numerical values for the food that we eat. However, the ability to absorb calories and nutrients from certain food often depends on how it was prepared in the first place. Put simply, we absorb less energy from minimally processed carbohydrates and fats, because they’re harder to digest. Plus they require more calories to digest. Contrastingly, we absorb more energy from highly processed carbohydrates and fats, because they’re easier to digest.
In this post, we only scratched the surface of the energy balance equation. If you want to learn more, please reach out to Solid and let us teach you how to get the most out of your diet!
