Water and Fat Loss

Did you know that staying hydrated helps with fat loss? Sure a healthy diet and proper exercise help too, but by drinking enough water every day, you’ll achieve your fitness goals much faster.

Why is this?

The answer is your metabolism.

To carry out normal every day functions, including the burning of fat, your body needs water. When you aren’t drinking enough water, your body is unable to do its job efficiently. Furthermore, If you don’t drink water and instead consume other drinks like coffee, soda, or fruit juices, you will become dehydrated, which slows down your metabolism. This means you will not be burning fat as efficiently, and you probably won’t feel all that great either.

Still skeptical?

In one study of healthy men and women, published in The Journal of Endocrinology & Metabolism, drinking about 16 ounces of water temporarily spiked participants’ metabolic rate by 30 percent. The researchers concluded that increasing water intake by 1.5 liters (about six eight-ounce glasses) per day would increase daily caloric burn by about 200 calories.

So this summer, don’t just drink water to beat the heat – do it to keep your metabolism roaring too!
